Wedding Website 101

You’ve pinned 248 bouquet ideas, saved a dozen “signature cocktail” TikToks, and bought a second bridal notebook because one's for actual planning and one's to journal out your thoughts! But if there’s one thing that will make wedding planning a breeze for you and your guests, it’s this: a fabulous, functional wedding website.
A great wedding website is your digital headquarters. It's part concierge, part storyteller, part etiquette whisperer. And when done right? It reflects your vibe so well that even your second cousin’s plus-one feels like they’re in on the celebration.
So grab a latte (or a glass of bubbly), because I’m breaking down everything you need to create a wedding website that’s not just useful: it’s unforgettable.
.....and don't forget to subscribe for more planning tips, inspiration, free downloads, and be the first to know about every discount and launch of new products that will help you during your planning year!

“We Had a Wedding Website... And Nobody Used It.”
Emma and Jake had a gorgeous site... soft beige tones, an artsy timeline, a guestbook feature, the whole deal. But on the wedding day? Aunt Kathy asked what hotel to stay in three times. Cousin Josh missed the shuttle. And nobody RSVP’d online. 😵💫
Why? Because the info wasn’t clear, the RSVP button was buried, and the guests didn’t know it existed.
Lesson: A pretty site is great. A functional, personality-packed site is what we're goin' for.
First: Take the Quiz!
Answer these with a ✨ Yes ✨ or 😬 Not yet 😬:
Have you picked a wedding website platform that matches your style?
Is your site mobile-friendly (because let’s be honest — guests are checking it from their phones)?
Have you made it EASY for guests to find the info they need?
Does it feel like you two — not like a generic wedding template?
Did you include a way for guests to RSVP, ask questions, and feel involved?
If you answered “Not yet” to more than 2… this blog’s about to be your planning BFF.

Platforms I Recommend (with Pros & Vibes)
Platform | Best For | What I Love |
Zola | All-in-one couples | Easy RSVP, registry, hotel info |
The Knot | Classic weddings | Clean templates, guest list manager |
Joy | Modern, tech-savvy couples | App + website, lots of personality features |
Minted | Design lovers | Gorgeous premium designs, especially if you're using their invites too |
(not to influence you too much, but I use Minted for my personal clients!)
What to Include — Non-Negotiables
Your site should feel like a well-dressed bestie who knows what’s up. Here's your must-have checklist:
✅ Names, wedding date & location
✅ Your wedding schedule (with dates, times, and locations — even for pre/post events)
✅ Hotel & travel info (with links!)
✅ RSVP form that is easy to use
✅ Your registry (and how to politely phrase it)
✅ Contact details for questions
✅ Dress code details (guests stress over this!)
✅ Parking/shuttle/transportation info
✅ A mobile-friendly layout!
Optional (But So Worth It)
These are the little extras that take your site from “nice” to “they printed the whole thing out”:
Your Love Story: Just a few paragraphs — how you met, the proposal, funny moments. Use your tone: romantic, hilarious, sarcastic, whatever is you.
Meet the Wedding Party: Add names, pics, and fun facts (e.g., “Maid of Honor: Could beat the groom at Mario Kart with her eyes closed.”)
Fun Facts About You: Dogs, tacos, reality TV obsessions — go wild.
Countdown Clock: Guests get hyped when they see “42 days to go!”
Spotify Playlist: Share the songs you’re loving or that will be on the dance floor.
Local Guide: Recommend brunch spots, salons, or sightseeing for out-of-towners.

How to Get Guests to Actually Use It
Let’s avoid an Emma & Jake situation.
Put your website link on your Save the Dates, Invites, and welcome signage
Send it in a group email with a subject like: “Everything You Need to Know About Our Wedding”
Text it to the group chat
Make the URL short and easy
Don’t just “drop the link” — tell them what’s on it! (“All our wedding weekend details, travel info, and RSVP are here”)
Add Your Personality — Make It So You
If you’re a beachy, barefoot couple: tropical fonts and pastel colors.
If you’re doing glam black tie: modern serif fonts, moody color palette, editorial-style photos.
This is where your design eye comes in! Think of it like the digital version of your wedding style guide.
Pro Tip: Match your site to your invitations or wedding design board. More on the design aspects in just a minute!

FAQ Section Guests Will LOVE You For
Don’t assume they’ll text you. Just answer their questions before they ask.
What to include:
Can I bring a date?
Is there parking at the venue?
Are kids allowed?
What’s the dress code?
Are there vegan/gluten-free food options?
Will the ceremony be outside?
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Who should I contact if I have a question?
Ways to Stand Out
Want your site to actually make people say “wow”?
Use your engagement photos throughout
Add little “Did You Know?” moments about your relationship
Include a voice memo or video from you two welcoming guests (it’s like a digital hug!)
Make your RSVP thank-you message personal (“We can’t wait to see you — and maybe dance battle you.”)

Now that we've gone over the basics, let's talk DESIGN!
Creating a wedding website should feel like shopping for your dream outfit — a little fun, a little fabulous, and so you. Think of it as your digital save-the-date with way more personality (and fewer postage stamps).
Here are my best design tips to make your wedding website look amazing: beginner-friendly and planner-approved!
1. Start with Your Vibe — What’s Your Wedding Feeling?
Before you click through 58 templates, take a breath and ask:
What does our wedding feel like?
A barefoot beach party? (Think tropical colors, breezy fonts)
A glam black-tie event? (Hello, chic serif fonts, black-and-white themes)
A rustic barn bash? (Neutral tones, cozy layout, maybe a touch of gingham?)
A modern city soirée? (Clean lines, minimal style, moody accents)
Mini Exercise: Write 3 words that describe your dream wedding style. Then pick a theme that reflects those words — not just what's trending.

2. Match Your Color Palette to Your Wedding Colors
Your website should be the digital extension of your wedding design. Keep your colors consistent — this helps everything look cohesive and curated.
How to do it:
Pick 2–3 main colors and 1–2 accents
Use those same tones on your invites, website, and signage
Choose a template that lets you customize colors — Zola, Joy, Minted, and The Knot all allow this!
Cute Idea: Add a background in your wedding color or include accent details (like your buttons or links) in a matching tone.
Example Palette Inspiration:
Vibe | Color Palette |
Romantic Garden | Blush, sage, ivory |
Boho Desert | Terracotta, mustard, cream |
Winter Chic | Emerald, gold, deep navy |
Coastal Minimal | Sand, sky blue, driftwood gray |

3. Fonts Matter More Than You Think
Fonts are the unsung heroes of your wedding vibe. They say a lot about your style, even if you don’t realize it.
Font Style | Feels Like |
Script | Romantic, elegant, classic |
Serif (like Times or Georgia) | Traditional, formal |
Sans-serif (like Arial or Helvetica) | Modern, clean, minimal |
Handwritten | Whimsical, casual, artsy |
Tips:
Use one fun font (like a script for your names) and one clean font for the body text.
Don’t use ALL CAPS everywhere (unless you want your guests to feel yelled at).
Make sure it’s easy to read on phones!
4. Use Gorgeous Photos (Even iPhone Ones!)
Photos make your site come alive. Don’t worry if you don’t have your engagement shoot yet — pick your favorite couple pics and upload those babies.
Tips for your photo section:
Use horizontal (landscape) photos for banner images
Use bright, natural light
Avoid filters — the cleaner the photo, the better it looks online
Show personality! You laughing, dancing, walking the dog… it’s gold.
Pro move: Add a caption under one with a fun quote or inside joke.

5. Pick a Layout That Fits What You Need (Not Just What Looks Cute)
Some templates are all about visuals. Others are built to function. You want both — beauty and brains.
Ask:
Do we need RSVP built-in?
Do we have multiple events (like rehearsal, welcome drinks)?
Do we want people to browse, or just get info fast?
If your wedding has lots of moving parts, pick a theme with a clear menu or tabs at the top.
If you're all about the visual vibes, choose a scrolling one-page design with large image spaces.
6. Add Personality with Little Touches
This is where you turn basic into bombshell.
Try this:
Rename your tabs: “Our Story” instead of “About Us,” “The Squad” instead of “Wedding Party”
Add emojis next to headers (like 💍, 🍾, 🕺)
Share “fun facts” about your relationship
Include your Spotify wedding playlist
These things make your guests go, “Okay, this is SO them.”
7. Make It Mobile-Friendly (Because Aunt Linda Isn’t Pulling Out a Laptop)
Most guests will use your site from their phones. Choose a theme that looks great on mobile by default (all the major platforms do this — just preview it before publishing!).
Keep paragraphs short, use buttons for RSVPs, and space out info so it doesn’t feel crammed.
8. Preview Everything Before You Hit Publish
Before you shout “WE’RE LIVE!” — double check:
✔️ All names are spelled right
✔️ Dates and times are accurate
✔️ RSVPs are working (do a test run!)
✔️ Links open in a new tab
✔️ Photos load well on both desktop & mobile
Trust me: a 10-minute review will save you 10 “I can’t find the info” texts.
